Android O inches closer to release with new beta launch

Android O appears to be right on schedule for its late summer release, as it has just released its third of four developer previews. While previous updates to the beta program for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel and Pixel XL users have brought along new and anticipated features, this one is strictly of interest for app developers.

This update brings with it the finalized APIs for Android O and its SDK, both of which will help developers ensure that their apps are up to speed when it comes time to launch widely to those who aren’t enrolled in the beta.

In case your memory needs a jog, “up to speed” in the case of O means that in addition to meeting the many new standards set forth, also making sure that it’s compatible with the new notification channels, dots and if applicable, picture-in-picture.

At this point, it’s still not recommended to put O on your dedicated phone, as even Google admits that general performance isn’t up to speed just yet. But if you are brave enough to opt-in to the beta program (first off, fist bump), follow our link to find out how to download Android O.
