Apple iPhone SE put through bend, water and drop tests, and the results aren’t impressive

Wondering if the new Apple iPhone SE bends? Here’s a torture video that answers the question.

Since the Apple iPhone 6′s Bendgate saga, new iPhones are almost immediately put through torture tests to see just how strong they are. Unsurprisingly, the new Apple iPhone SE too has been put through bend, water and drop tests by Extended warranty provider SquareTrade, and the results are then compared with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The TL;DR version — things are not so good for the iPhone SE.

The folks first put the three iPhones through a bend test, and the iPhone SE bent under 160 pounds of pressure. In comparison, it took another 10 pounds of pressure for the iPhone 6s to start bending. More pressure was added and the iPhone SE was completely destroyed at 178 pounds of pressure. In comparison, at this point the iPhone 6s Plus had just started bending.

The test also includes dunking the three iPhones into water, and again the iPhone SE manages to disappoint. The new iPhone completely shutdown in less than a minute, while the iPhone 6s Plus lasted about the 10 minutes, and the iPhone 6s nearly half hour.

It’s only the last test where the iPhone SE matched to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, but that’s not necessarily a good thing. When dropped from a height of six feet, all three iPhones suffered similar fate — shattered screen. In fact, when dropped on its corner a few times, the iPhone SE completely split open.

The new iPhone SE may have the internals of the iPhone 6s, but the overall design and body is the same as the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. The only cosmetic differences on the iPhone SE are matte chamfered edges and a color-matched inset Apple logo. It is clear from this test that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are much more stronger than the iPhone SE.

The new Apple iPhone SE went on sale in India earlier this week, priced at Rs 39,000 for the 16GB variant and Rs 49,000 for the 64GB variant. While it may be a new iPhone, the two-year-old design and the relatively high price tag has had an effect on the sales. As per various reports, the uptake for the new iPhone SE has been less than impressive so far.
