Apple is set to open a $25 million technology development center in Hyderabad. It will be the first such center for the company outside the US, and will provide around 4,500 jobs.
After the likes of Google and Microsoft, it is Apple that is looking at India to build a development center. As per ZDNet, Apple will invest $25 million to set up the technology development center in Hyderabad, and is expected to be operational by June this year. This would be the Cupertino-based giant’s first development center outside the US, and is likely to create around 4,500 job opportunities.
Apple’s technology development center is being built in Hyderabad’s IT corridor alongside other IT giants like Microsoft, Infosys, and Wipro among others. The 250,000 center will come up at Tishman Speyer’s WaveRock facility, built at a cost of around Rs 150 crore. According to the report, Apple plans on hiring people to focus on Maps.
Apple’s plans to build a technology center in India has been in the news since early last year. The company had set up a technology support center in Bangalore back in 2006. But it was soon shutdown citing poor service quality.
The latest development comes at a time when Apple is strongly focused on the Indian market. At the recent quarterly earnings, the company recorded a 76 percent growth in iPhone sales in India. CEO Tim Cook not only described India as ‘incredibly exciting’, but has also deemed it as an important growth area for Apple in the next decade. During his visit to the US, PM Narendra Modi met Cook and also invited Apple to start manufacturing in India.
