We’ve already heard rumours that the Apple Watch 2 will come with a bigger battery, and there’s been more speculation over the weekend that the larger 42mm version of Apple’s next wearable will indeed be sporting a battery with 35.7 percent more capacity.
That’s according to an unverified photo posted to Weibo, a Chinese social network similar to Twitter. There’s no clue where the photo has come from but it does match up with claims made by reputable analysts earlier in the year.
The battery in question is said to be a 334 mAh lithium-ion model, which is quite a jump up from the 246 mAh battery in the existing Apple Watch. Apple hasn’t said anything about a new model yet, but the signs are pointing to a launch before the end of the year.
All in the wrist
If the battery upgrade does materialise it should increase the appeal of the next-gen wearable and mean Apple Watch owners aren’t necessarily going to have to charge their devices every night.
Of course battery size isn’t the only indicator of a gadget’s battery life – the internal circuitry and the power draw from other components is also going to play a part. A separate rumour says the new wearable will arrive with a thinner screen too.
It’s a good bet that Apple will unveil the Apple Watch 2.0 alongside the iPhone 7 at its special event on 7 September, but as yet there’s no confirmation from Cupertino about any of the gossip we’ve heard so far. All should be revealed soon.
