Asus Zenfone Max (ZC550KL) with Snapdragon 615 SoC, Android Marshmallow launched: Price, specifications, features

Asus has upgraded its Zenfone Max smartphone with more RAM, onboard storage and a faster processor.

Asus has launched a refreshed version of its Zenfone Max smartphone which comes with a handful of improvements over its predecessor. The new smartphone comes equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, increased onboard storage and RAM. The new Zenfone Max (ZC550KL) comes with the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS and a massive 5,000mAh battery.

Asus Zenfone Max price: The smartphone is available in two variants – 2GB of RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs 9,999 and 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs 12,999. While the 2GB version is available for pre-order exclusively on Flipkart, the 3GB variant will be available across Amazon, Snapdeal, Flipkart and physical retail stores across India.

Asus Zenfone Max specifications and features: The smartphone comes with 5.5-inch HD (720p) display. Under the hood comes a major change – it is now equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot with support of up to 64GB.

The Zenfone Max 2015 came with Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core chipset paired with 2GB of RAM. It featured 16GB of internal storage along with microSD support.

In the camera department, the new Zenfone Max has a 13-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0 with Laser autofocus and dual LED flash and a 5-megpaixel selfie camera of aperture f/2.0 and 85-degress wide angle. Armed with a 5,000mAh battery, connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11, GPS, 4G LTE and dual-SIM connectivity. On the software front, you get the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS wrapped under ZEN UI. One of the highlights of the smartphone’s battery is that you can also use it as a power bank to charge other devices.

At this price point, the Asus Zenfone Max will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (16GB), LeEco Le 1s and the Meizu m3 Note. Compared to its competitors, the Zenfone Max has a massive 5,000mAh battery and Android Marshmallow OS. However, the Redmi Note 3, Le 1s and the m3 Note sport a unibody design and a fingerprint scanner, which is missing from the Zenfone Max.

Going by the specifications, the Zenfone Max seems like a good enough device for its price range and could appeal users who are looking for better battery backup from their smartphones. We have already reviewed the previous version of the Zenfone Max smartphone and were impressed by its battery life. Stay tuned for our detailed review of the new Zenfone Max.
