Coolpad Note 5 launched in India, priced at Rs 10,999: Specifications, features

Coolpad Note 5 today launched in India for Rs 10,999. It will compete against the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or Lenovo Vibe K5 Note?

As expected, Coolpad has today indeed launched the Note 5 in India. The smartphone is priced at Rs 10,999, and will be going on open sale exclusively via Amazon India from October 20. The Note 5 is Coolpad’s ‘Made in India’ smartphone and as the name suggests, it is the successor to the Coolpad Note 3, which was launched in India for Rs 8,499.

As far as the design is concerned, Coolpad’s Note 5 boasts a unibody metal design. This something we have seen companies increasingly adopt on smartphones in this range. It adds a premium-ness, and is much better than devices featuring plastic bodies. Adding to the premium-ness is also a 2.5D curved glass up front, similar to what we saw on the Coolpad Mega 2.5D.

Coolpad Note 5 specifications

The Coolpad Note 5‘s specifications and features are in line with what has leaked before. So in essence, you get a device that flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display with 2.5D curved glass, and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. If we were to nitpick, the Snapdragon 617 chipset is a bit of a downer, especially when the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 chipset.

There is also 32GB internal storage on the Note 5, which can be further expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card. On the photography front, the Note 5 is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. For selfie lovers, there is an 8-megapixel snapper with 80-degrees wide-angle lens, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. As is the trend these days, Coolpad‘s smartphone too comes with a fingerprint scanner placed at the back below the camera.

The Note 5 is packed with a 4,010mAh battery that Coolpad claims is good enough for up to 350 hours of standby time, and 14 hours talk time. The battery also supports Quick Charge. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots (hybrid setup), 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and OTG support. On the software front, it runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 wrapped under Cool 8 UI.

Coolpad Note 5 is set to face stiff competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note, both priced at Rs 11,999. All three smartphones share a largely similar set of specifications and features. For example, they come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 32GB onboard memory, microSD card slot, fingerprint scanner, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support.

When talking about the internals, the Note 5 and Redmi Note 3 are powered by Snapdragon 617 and 650 processors respectively. The Vibe K5 Note, on the other hand, is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor. The Note 5 however has the advantage of featuring 4GB of RAM. While the Vibe K5 Note too has a variant with 4GB of RAM, it is priced a tad higher at Rs 13,499.

In the photography front, the Redmi Note 3 features a 16-megapixel rear camera, while the Vibe K5 Note and the Note 5 come with a 13-megapixel snapper. Up front, Coolpad and Lenovo’s smartphones come with 8-megapixel selfie cameras, while Xiaomi’s smartphone is stuck with a 5-megapixel snapper. The Note 5 also has the advantage of a front-facing flash, something missing on the other smartphones.
