Docoss X1 smartphone, claiming to be India’s cheapest phone priced at Rs 888 has been launched in India on its official website docoss.com – this come barely months after the bubble burst on Ringing Bells Freedom 251 mobile which was priced at Rs 251 and tagged as the ‘cheapest smartphone in the world.
Docoss X1 smartphone can be booked till April 29 before 10 PM. Docoss is also taking orders via its SMS on ‘7666204430’ or ‘9223222888’. Users have to just type “Name Address and City postal code” send the SMS. It must be noted here that the company has asked users not to call on the number provided as one-to-one interaction will not be entertained at all.

Docoss has a Facebook page that is full of messages and comments from users wanting to know how to book the Docoss X1 smartphone. Given that nobody has heard of the company before, and that Docoss claims to have been featured on The Verge, Mashable, etc if you go by the webcache page on Google, there are, at the moment, few doubts being raised about the authenticity of Docoss X1 smartphone. Docoss address is listed as “Third Floor, Happy Tower, Maharani Farm, Durgapura, Jaipur, Rajasthan.” However, considering the frenzy and the subsequent disappointmemt to potential buyers from the Ringing Bells Freedom 251 experience, it would be advisable to proceed with caution.
In February Ringing Bell’s Freedom 251 smartphone was unveiled, priced at Rs 251 that claimed to be India’s cheapest smartphone. Freedom 251 smartphone from Noida-based start-up Ringing Bells made headlines for a few weeks, especially as it was launched by senior Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader M M Joshi (earlier it was said Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar would launch the smartphone). The smartphone was surrounded by disputated that led to an FIR being registered against the makers. Ringing Bells promised to deliver Freedom 251 smartphones by end of June. The website crashed soon after bookings opened and it was later discovered that Freedom 251 smartphone shown at the launch was a re-branded version of another device from a firm called AdCom. AdCom later threatened to sue Ringing Bells.
Another India-based brand -mPhone ‘Mango’ smartphone also made headlines but ended up as a dud soon after due to the financial state of the proprietors, who were reportedly arrested at the launch of the brand in India for bank fraud.
