With everyone trying to buy the Rs 251 smartphone, Ringing Bells’ servers have been overloaded. Bookings for Freedom 251 have been halted and should resume within 24 hours.
Bookings for the Freedom 251 started earlier today, and the window was set to remain open till February 21, 8:00PM. But seems like Ringing Bells didn’t quite anticipate the kind of demand for the world’s cheapest smartphone, and it had to prematurely halt taking bookings.The company says that freedom251.com received nearly six lakh hits per second, which has resulted in the overloading of its servers. Ringing Bells, however, says that bookings should be open within 24 hours.
When clicking on the ‘Buy Now’ button on Freedom 251′s website, users come across a message from Ringing Bells. “Dear friends, we are very grateful for your enormous response and your kind patronage and would submit that as of now we received approx. 6 lakh hits per second as a result of your kind overwhelming response, servers are over loaded.”
“We humbly submit that we are therefore taking a pause and upgrading the service and will revert within or before 24 hours. Once again our respectful thanks and gratitude for your support and patience. We look forward your return as soon as we are back online well within 24 hours,” the company adds.
While it has revealed the sort of hits the website got, Ringing Bells hasn’t revealed how many buyers have successfully been able to book a handset. Despite the booking window opening at 6:00AM today, many faced an issue wherein hitting on the Pay Now button would take you back to the main page. A quick look at social media, and not surprisingly, there is a lot of outrage over people not being able to book the device despite multiple tries.
