Google Gboard keyboard app with built-in search functionality launched

The new Gboard app from Google lets you search for GIFs, places, emojis and places without a browser on your iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Google has released a third-party keyboard app for iOS that comes integrated with search functionality. Called the Gboard, it is compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch running on iOS 9 and above. Using the keyboard, users can search for images, GIFs, local businesses and more, without having to open a web browser. As of now, the keyboard app is only available in English in the US, with other languages and regions to follow soon.

The Gboard keyboard works with all the apps, be it messaging, emails, notes, YouTube, WhatsApp and more. Until now, if you had to search for meaning of a word, look for a place to eat and dine or find anything else, you had to quit the app, open a web browser and search. The Gboard app aims to eliminate these hassles.

The Gboard looks very similar to other third party keyboards except for a tiny Google logo on the top left corner. When typing on the keyboard, it will offer word suggestions and swipe to type functionality is also present. Now, when you have to search for a place, movie or anything else, just tap on the Google button, which will allow you to do a quick search, just like you would on a web browser. The search results will be displayed right there, without having to leave the app.

Besides doing a Google search, you can search for emoji’s too. If you want to put a dancing emoji, just press the Google button and type dancer. And if you want to show people how you are feeling, you can search for a GIF and quickly insert it within the conversation.
