Google Maps adds new traffic alerts for India, to tell how long you’ll be stuck in a jam

Now Google Maps will not only provide you more details about alternate and faster routes, but also tell you how long you will be stuck in traffic jam.

Google has rolled out a new update to its Google Maps for Indian users. The latest update brings new traffic alerts, which aim to help you plan your journey better as well as help save time while travelling. The updates are available for Google Maps for Android and iOS platforms. Users can find the new features when in navigation mode.

Google has added voice alerts for upcoming traffic conditions whenever users input destination name in Google Maps. Moreover, Google Maps will also offer you alternate routes, along with information on why the particular route has been recommended. The app will tell whether the route is the fastest or has lesser traffic as well.

Currently, Google does give you the option of alternate routes, along with how much longer it will take you in comparison to the primary route. The new update though makes it more elaborate and helps users make more informed decision while travelling.

Also, when you are on road, the app will alert you about the congestion ahead and also give an estimate time of how long you could be stuck in the jam. Currently, Google just shows a red color, suggesting there’s a congestion on the route. The app doesn’t really tell how much time one can get stuck in the congestion. The new feature though will make Google Maps more reliable with more precise ETA information.

The latest update to Google’s maps apps comes shortly after it integrated cab services in major cities in India. The integration allows users to select from taxi hailing services such as Uber or Ola. Users can see estimated fare, pick up times and availability of taxis nearby your location. The app has also included uberGO, uberX, Ola Mini, Ola Micro and Ola Sedan options.
