Google Pixel 7-inch tablet by Huawei leaked, key specifications revealed

Huawei could be working on the successor of Nexus 7 (2013) tablet. Rumored to be called Google Pixel, the tablet is expected to come with 7-inch display and 4GB of RAM.

Google is widely expected to ditch the Nexus line of smartphones and launch two new smartphones called Pixel and Pixel XL, made by HTC. Along with these smartphones, Google is also reportedly working on its second Pixel-branded tablet to go along with the 10-inch Pixel C tablet that was launched last year. It has reportedly tasked Huawei for developing the next, compact Pixel tablet. The source of information comes from reliable leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks), who has also hinted at some of the expected specifications.

According to Blass, the Huawei made tablet will sport a 7-inch display and 4GB of RAM. It will be launched before the end of the year. As he did not mention ‘Nexus’ branding anywhere, there are high chances that Google may drop the moniker in favor of Pixel. The tablet is likely to be long awaited successor of the 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet that was released back in 2013. Earlier this year, Huawei also filed a trademark for ‘Huawei 7P’ and it shouldn’t come as a surprise if the tablet is eventually launched as Google Pixel 7P. As if now, details about the launch date and pricing are missing, but Google may choose to unveil the tablet on October 4, when it is widely expected to launch the Pixel, Pixel XL, Daydream VR headset and a 4K Chromecast dongle too.

Coming to smartphones, the HTC made Pixel and Pixel XL carrying codename Sailfish and Marlin have been leaked on numerous occasions. From what we have learned so far, the smartphones won’t feature HTC logo, but will come with Google branding. The Google Pixel is likely to sport a 5-inch full HD display, whereas the Pixel XL could flaunt a slightly larger 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display. Under the hood, both smartphones are likely to be powered with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. The Pixel XL could also be offered in 128GB variant.

In the photography department, both smartphones could come with 12-megapixel rear camera (Sony’s IMX378 sensor), which is the same one that can be found under HTC 10. If at all the camera sensors turn out to be the same, the Pixel and Pixel XL could have good camera capabilities. Up front, an 8-megapixel camera (Sony IMX179 sensor) is expected, which can be seen on the Nexus 6P and Huawei P9 among others.

On the connectivity front, USB Type-C port for audio transfer and charging is expected, along with other options such as Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. While the Pixel XL could be armed with a 3,450mAh battery, there is no word on the battery capacity of the Pixel. On the software front, the Pixel and Pixel smartphones are likely to ship with Android 7.1 Nougat at launch. We expect more details to pour in as we get closer to the October 4 launch.
