Google has rolled out the fourth Android N Developer Preview for compatible Nexus smartphones. The third preview version was stable enough to be used as a daily driver and the latest one is aimed at the third-party developers. Google has also finalized the official SDK and APIs, allowing developers to publish their apps for Android N devices. The update also brings in several bug fixes and stability improvements.
As the APIs are now finalized, developers can now publish their apps on Google Play Store that target API level 24. These apps can take advantage of new features that are going to be part of Android such as multi-window support, direct-replay notifications and more. Google has also added an Easter Egg with Android N logo and name hinting at ‘Namey McNameface.’ However, it seems like a codename and final version name could be something else.
The update is being rolled out as OTA (over-the-air) and users who have enrolled for Android Beta program should start receiving the update notification. Users can also manually check for the update by heading over to Settings > About Phone > Update. Google has also released factory images for those who want to manually flash over the new firmware.
Android N Developer Preview 4 is available for the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Huawei Nexus 6P, Google Pixel C, HTC Nexus 9 and Sony Xperia Z3.
