Interested in OnePlus 3 specs? We’ve done the math for you

There’s a whole lot riding on the next phone out of OnePlus, even co-founder Carl Pei knows that. The OnePlus 3 will feature a new design and, as we’re finding out now, probably some fairly impressive specs inside, though they don’t nudge the bar much higher over the OnePlus 2.

The rumored technical specifications for what’s likely to be called the OnePlus 3 have popped up on Chinese social network Weibo, Android Community reports. The phone, referred to in a leaked AnTuTu Benchmark screenshot as “OnePlus A3000,” looks to pack in a 1,920 x 1,080 screen, much like the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2. However, the size of the screen is unknown at this time.

If this leak is to be believed, the OnePlus follow-up will arrive with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The Doze Mode found in Google’s latest OS should help the OnePlus 3’s battery last much longer than its successor’s day-long tank of juice.

Next up, the upcoming device could get a bump in power with the Snapdragon 820 system-on-a-chip (or SoC) and Adreno 530 embedded GPU. Our time with the Snapdragon 810 – used in the OnePlus 2 – didn’t prove to be the catastrophe we feared it would be, but things did get toasty while gaming, and charging the device. Let’s hope the OnePlus 3 can keep the heat to a minimum, while pushing performance to the max.

Loads of MPs and RAM

The benchmark also reveals the potential camera specs for the next phone out of OnePlus. The rear-facing camera is said to be 16-megapixels (MP), while the selfie shooter is a surprisingly hearty 8MP. Numbers aside, we’re looking forward to testing it out.

Finally, the leak shows that the phone may be stocked with 4GB of memory and come with 32GB of onboard storage. The current OnePlus 2 model for sale comes with that amount of RAM, but a boosted 64GB of storage, which leads us to believe that (hopefully) this benchmark is showing the lower tier of the OnePlus 3 that will be available this year.

What we’re hoping for most about the OnePlus 3 isn’t listed on this benchmark. As the smartphone market heats up evermore, OnePlus’s next device could rise to the top of the heap if it were to pack NFC, fast-charging and wireless charging tech, microSD, and – cross your fingers – Android N.

The OnePlus 3 is expected land by late June, the firm’s co-founder has promised, but we should hear even more about it before then.

It would be nice if they sold the phone to Australia. I wanted to buy the one plus 2 but they didn't want to take my money.
