Kinefinity announce Mavo & Mavo LF Cameras plus $11,999 Prime lens Set

Kinefinity has announced the release of two new cameras, the MAVO & MAVO LF in a live stream event.

There have been many delays for customers who have ordered the Kinefinity Terra 4K & Terra 6K, hopefully, these cameras won’t face the same problem. Have a look at the Kinefinity Facebook Group to see the various stories from people waiting for their orders to ship.

The MAVO has an S35 sensor while the MAVO LF (you think that they may have been able to come up with an original name and not just copy ARRI) uses a large-format sensor measuring 36x24mm. Both cameras can shoot up to 6K with a claimed 14+ stops of dynamic range.

MAVO and MAVO LF are based on the same video process platform, using advanced color processing architecture and whole new CMOS image sensors to achieve super low-noise, high dynamic range. According to Kinefinity, “Whether it is the S35 format version of MAVO or the large-format version of MAVO LF, the 6K images can bring extraordinary details, sharp images and rich shades. MAVO LF is with large-format sensor showing more features such as cleaner images, wider viewing angles, shallower depth of field, and more presence.”

6K AT UP TO 66FPS

MAVO and MAVO LF can shoot 6K wide 66fps slow-motion, 4K wide 100fps slo-mo. Both high-speed and normal frame rate can get the same superior images, more than 14 stops of latitude, natural highlights and shadow details are preserved perfectly.

ANAMORPHIC SHOOTING MODES

With 6K 3:2 aspect ratio, in addition to the conventional 16:9 and 17:9 standard aspect ratio, the CMOS sensor can also provide a variety of image formats, such as 4:3, 6:5 S35 anamorphic shooting, even the open gate 6016×4016.

A new KineBACK module will also be available for the MAVO & MAVO LF which integrates a wireless video transmitter and a wireless receiver that works with Movcam’s follow focus system.

CINEMADNG AND PRORES 444XQ

image7

Unlike the TERRA 4K and TERRA 6K cameras, the MAVO and MAVO LF are able to shoot in CinemaDNG in compression ratios of 3:1, 5:1 and 7:1., as well as in ProRes 444XQ, 444, 422HQ, LT and Proxy. The TERRA cameras were limited to ProRes 422HQ and Kinefinity’s KRW RAW format (2:1-10:1), which the MABVO and MOVO LF can also do. Both the MAVO and MAVO LF record to 2.5-inch SSD SATA drives.

The camera comes standard with a KineMOUNT and additional PL, Canon EF, Nikon F and Sony E Mount adaptors can be used. The MAVO has a 1.5x crop factor which is slightly wider than the TERRA 4K and 6Ks 1.85 and 1.6x crops respectively.

Thinking about ordering one? ordering a Kinefinity camera is not for the faint-hearted. Be prepared for delays and with no customer service base outside of China so repairs and tech support may be a difficult process. It’s also hard to convince a lot of clients to use a camera that they have never heard of. Still, Kinefinity is making big moves in the cinema world, we hope to get one in for review as soon as possible.
