Leaked photo confirms Galaxy Note 7 launch date

We now have a good idea of when the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be announced, courtesy of a leaked image.

Following on from its dual-flagship release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, thoughts are naturally turning to Samsung’s next Galaxy Note phablet. We now have a good idea of when it might launch, thanks to a leaked photo published by SamMobile.

The photo in question appears to show an invite to a “Galaxy Unpacked 2016″ event being held on August 2 at the Lincoln Centre, New York.

This is undoubtedly a reference to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 launch. Last year, the Galaxy Note 5 was announced in New York on August 12, which represented something of a break away from the September IFA launch window that had been used previously for Note devices. It seems Samsung is intent on sticking with this new way of doing things.

You might be wondering why we’re calling it the Galaxy Note 7. You’re not mistaken – 6 most definitely comes after 5. But reports suggest that Samsung is leaping straight to the Galaxy Note 7 this year in a bid to bring about perceived parity with the Galaxy S range.

It’s not just a launch date that this leaked poster pic provides. According to the blurb, “The next edge is just around the corner,” which appears to confirm recent rumours that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will carry the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge’s distinctive curved screen edge design.

Other than this, we’re expecting the Galaxy Note 7 to have a the following specs:

  • 5.77-inch display
  • 2K (QHD) screen resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 processor
  • Adreno 530 GPU
  • 6GB RAM
  • 256GB storage
  • 4,200mAh battery
  • IP68-certified waterproof/dustproof body
  • Iris scanner

None of this is official yet, of course, so don’t take any of it as read. But we’re starting to get a very convincing picture of what Samsung’s next flagship phablet will look like.
