The Logitech Zone Wired is a lightweight, on-ear headset from Swiss computer peripherals manufacturer Logitech. It’s the latest in the company’s extensive range of headsets and provides a wired alternative to its premium Bluetooth headset, the Zone Wireless.
With remote working now more commonplace, the Zone Wired delivers an elegant and affordable way to improve both home and workplace communication quality.
Logitech Zone Wired: What do you get for the money?
For £119 you get the Zone Wired USB C headset, a USB-C to USB-A adapter and a fabric carrying case. The headset’s cable is 1.9m long, which is ample for just about any desktop setup; it’s braided, too, which helps prevent it from getting tangled up. The cable has in-line controls, which are simple to use and allow you to increase/decrease volume, play/pause audio, mute your mic and join/end calls.
There’s also a Velcro tab you can use to neatly tie the wiring up when you’re not using the headset, which is a nice touch. Build quality is excellent, with the Teflon-coated stainless steel headband lined with a soft silicone head cushion and comfortable memory foam adorning the earpads.
The Logitech Zone Wired is designed for those seeking improved audio and video communications both at home and in the office. There are two models available: one certified for UC platforms and one certified for Microsoft Teams, so you’re covered whatever calling platform you use. The Zone Wired isn’t just for professional use, though; it works just as well on Zoom calls with your family and performs admirably while watching content online or listening to music.
Logitech Zone Wired: What’s the sound quality like?
The 40mm drivers housed in the Logitech Zone Wired deliver very impressive sound across the frequency spectrum. They’re particularly good at reproducing mid-range and high frequencies, which makes it easy to hear every word of a conversation and pick up dialogue in TV shows and movies. There’s also plenty of depth to the bass, which is somewhat surprising given it’s a headset primarily balanced for vocal communications.
The on-ear design means you’ll get a fair amount of sound leakage. Once I hit around 60% volume, what I was listening to could be heard by those in close proximity. At maximum volume, my music was audible to my partner stood a good few metres away. It’s not a problem if you’re working from home alone but is certainly something to bear in mind if you plan on using them to listen to music at your desk in a shared space or office environment.
Logitech Zone Wired: How good is the microphone?
The flip-to-mute microphone works extremely well. My voice came through clear as a bell on every one-to-one and group call I participated in during testing and the dual-mic noise cancelling technology does a good job of limiting background noise.
It doesn’t completely suppress loud typing or sounds in close proximity to you but household chatter and moderate noise from appliances more than a couple of metres away are effectively silenced.
The mic isn’t detachable but can be rotated 270 degrees, which means that you can have it on either your left or right depending on your preference. It’s attached to the earcup labelled right but given that the earcups are identical, wearing the headset the other way around makes no noticeable difference to your audio experience.
The Zone Wired works with Logitech’s Logi Tune software, which is pretty basic but gives you access to a few useful features. You can use it to adjust the level of “sidetone” (the volume at which you hear your own voice in the headset) and the mic level. There’s also the option to create and save your own EQ profile or select one of three presets.
I found the default setting worked just fine but it’s always nice to have the option to do a bit of tweaking if necessary. Firmware updates are released through the app, which can be downloaded on both mobile and desktop platforms. At launch, the software wasn’t available for Mac desktop users, but a Mac version can now be downloaded from the Logitech website.
Should I buy the Logitech Zone Wired?
The Logitech Zone Wired ticks all the right boxes when it comes to what to look for in a wired headset. It’s comfortable enough to wear for long periods, the microphone’s clarity and noise cancellation are top-notch and audio quality is impressive.
It may lack the flexibility of its Bluetooth variant, but the Zone Wired comes highly recommended for those wanting to improve their remote or office working capabilities.
