Make in India: LG K7, K10 smartphones to be manufactured in India

LG joins in on the Make in India initiative. The new LG K7 and K10 will be manufactured at the Noida plant.

LG is among the latest companies to be a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India‘ initiative. At today’s K7 and K10 smartphone launch event, LG has announced that its new ‘K’ series will be the first in its portfolio to be manufactured in India. The LG K7 has been launched for Rs 9,500, while the LG K10 has been launched for Rs 13,500.

LG has set up a manufacturing plant at Noida, UP and also has an in-house Industrial design team in the country. It has also set up an R&D center in Bangalore. The company has revealed that it plans on manufacturing a million smartphones at its Noida plant this year.

LG is joining the likes of Xiaomi, OnePlus, Gionee, Vivo, OPPO, Micromax, Karbonn, among others who have moved their manufacturing plants to India. Most of them have however roped in contract manufacturer Foxconn, which has plants at Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. It also plans on expand its presence in the country by setting up new plants in the coming months.

Recent reports suggest that more than 100 million smartphones were manufactured in India last year, which is a marked increase from the 45 million manufactured a year before. DoT believes at this rate production could cross the 200 million mark in less than two years.

LG’s new smartphones have been developed with design as the primary focus. But at Rs 9,500 and Rs 13,500 respectively, the smartphones don’t have the set of specifications and features that can take on the competition.

The LG K7 features a 5-inch FWVGA display, Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, amd 16GB storage along with a microSD card slot. It also features a 5-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2,125mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE and VoLTE and VoWiFi support.

The LG K10, on the other hand, features a 5.3-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage, along with microSD card slot. It also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, 2,300mAh battery, and the same set of connectivity options.
