Motorola Moto M Spotted on Certification Site, Tipping Design and Specifications

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The smartphone will sport the fingerprint sensor at the back
  • The Moto M sports a full metal body
  • It is expected to be unveiled later this year

Motorola appears to be working on a new smartphone series, called Moto M. A device numbered XT1662 has surfaced on the Tenaa certification site revealing the smartphone from all angles, and also hinting at few key specifications. Apart from this, a separate leak also hints that the fingerprint sensor will be housed at the back of the device.

Earlier this month, a device with model number XT1663 that was thought was to be the Moto M was spotted on GFXBench. The benchmark result tips the smartphone to feature a 4.6-inch full-HD display, 1.9GHz Mediatek MT6750 octa-core SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel selfie camera, and will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

However, a fresh Tenaa listing with model number XT1662 has been spotted with a 5.5-inch display. This is speculated to be the a larger Moto M Plus variant being certified – though there is no real clarity on this front. The listing also hints at a 3000mh battery, 151x75x8mm dimensions, and 4G LTE support.

The Tenaa listing, spotted by PlayfulDroid, also shows the smartphone from all angles. The image shows a Gold colour variant in a full metal design, and antenna lines at the top and bottom. The Moto M has no physical front button, and the fingerprint scanner is seen at the back. The logo that was integrated on the dimple at the back is now placed at the bottom of the smartphone. The capsule-shaped structure to fit the camera lens and flash is reminiscent of other Motorola smartphones. The volume and the power buttons are situated at the right edge of the Moto M.

A separate leak reiterates that the fingerprint sensor is housed at the back for the Moto M. The new Moto G4 and Moto Z unveiled this year, have the sensor embedded in the front, and the Moto M will be the first smartphone to shift this tradition. The sensor will be embedded where the logo dimple is currently on all Motorola smartphones.

The new Moto M will sit somewhere between the Moto Z and Moto G line-up, and will be priced accordingly. The smartphone is expected to be unveiled sometime later this year.
