NFL QB Kaepernick shows it’s hard to tolerate fans who want selfie

Technically Incorrect: Accosted by supposed fans in an LA hotel, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick shows remarkable restraint.

Some stars get accused of being aloof.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is one of those stars.

Never too friendly with the press, more standoffish with the public than he is even with oncoming rushers, Kaepernick exudes an air of “I’m too good for all this.”

Airs can have their grace, though. And grace is what Kaepernick showed when he was accosted by two “fans” desperate to get a selfie with him in an LA hotel.

Presented so helpfully by TMZ Sports, the action shows the quarterback facing what sounds like the ramblings of your average late-night caller to a sports talk show.

“I believe you’re going to restore that power you once exuded,” says one of the “fans.”

Kaepernick hasn’t had too fine a time of it recently. He’s undergone surgery. He had to play under a highly questionable coach, Jim Tomsula, last year.

But here he stands, trying to be polite, as a fan hectors him about, what, the supernatural?

One minute Kaepernick is just minding his own business. The next, he’s having to face lectures on how he compares to Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

But the true purpose of all this is for the “fans” to get a selfie.

So Kaepernick poses with one of them, while simultaneously trying to explain himself and the fact that he isn’t actually Newton at all.

In America, it’s very much the custom that if you see someone famous you walk up to them and try to get a picture with them.

You then slap it up on Facebook and Twitter for everyone to admire. It’s less about you meeting the star and more about you telling everyone else you’ve met the star. It’s a world of selfie-obsession, after all.

The star is always supposed to oblige. But why should they? They might be paid more than you, but they’re still just trying to live as private a life as they can.

Next time you wonder why Kaepernick seems so aloof, take a look at this video. It might explain a few things.

I met Ice T once at the airport as a teen. He was really nice and talkative. He asked if I wanted to take a photo. I said cool.

I would never go up to a professional athlete, actor, or other highly recognized person and bother them when they are off the job. If I am at a football game and the players are signing auto or taking pics that is the time I would do it.

I don’t understand why some people feel they are entitled to some type of interaction with these people. Just give them a head nod or smile like you would give to a stranger on the street.

    That drunk guy super annoying.
