Nintendo Switch will not launch with Zelda: Breath of the Wild – report

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will no longer act as a launch title for Nintendo Switch, according to a recent report.

Sources close to Nintendo speaking with Eurogamer and industry insider Emily Rogers believe the long-anticipated title is now slated for a general 2017 release window.

Last night, Rogers detailed that the game’s localization process will now last until the end of 2016, with “four-to-six months of testing to follow.”

This means Breath of the Wild will miss out on the Nintendo Switch’s planned March 2017 launch date.

Eurogamer has been informed of a similar schedule, believing Nintendo hopes to release the game in a perfect state due to its lengthy development cycle.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is arguably the most ambitious title in the franchise’s history, featuring a fully-fledged open-world filled with ambitious new mechanics.

If these rumours turn out to be true, the Switch’s biggest potential launch title will be a tad late to the party.

Many believe that a new 3D Mario title is being developed in time for the console’s launch alongside a few enhanced Wii U ports such as Splatoon and Mario Kart.
