Rotolight has announced the launch of the NEO 2 Explorer Kit, a portable, lightweight three-light kit that looks to be suitable for traveling shooters and one man band operators.
I reviewed the Rotolight NEO 2 earlier in the year and one of the biggest gripes I had with their three-light kit was that it came in a very heavy custom hard case. While this case was really well made it made little sense to me to place fixtures in that only weigh 354g (12.48oz) into a heavy hard case. It seems I was not alone in my complaint, as Rotolight has listened to customer feedback requesting a more compact solution and come up with an answer.
The Rotolight NEO 2 Explorer Kit weighs 6.8kg, which is 50% lighter than the existing three-light light hard case. The soft case is made from high-quality, water-resistant material and comes with a padded strap. Just like the hard case version, the kit also includes light stands, colour FX filters, and power supplies.
The NEO 2 is certainly a feature-packed light that offers a lot of bang for your buck. With increased output and a host of features that none of its competitors can offer, it certainly stands out in this category. The fact that this light can be run off AA batteries and produce as much output as it does is a real testament to Rotolight’s engineering and development team. Rotolight seems to be right at the top of the pyramid when it comes to creating power efficient LED fixtures.
Small, compact fixtures like this can’t be used for every lighting situation, but Rotolight has managed to squeeze as much versatility and functionality out of the NEO 2 as possible. For people working in multimedia where you are required to take both video and stills the NEO 2 is a very compelling light. This new Explorer kit makes a lot of sense if you are looking for a compact all-in-one lighting solution. The Rotolight NEO 2 Explorer Kit is available now for £1199.99(inc)/ $1399.99/1189.99 Euro.
