Samsung Galaxy C series to launch in China on May 26

Samsung’s new Galaxy C series is likely to target the mid-range segment.

We have been hearing about Samsung’s new Galaxy C series for quite some time now. Well, Samsung is finally going to launch the new series on May 26 at an event in China. According to reports, the smartphones under the new series will be initially available in China. Right now, there’s no word on the availability of the devices in other markets.

Ahead of the May 26 launch, details of the new Galaxy C series have already been leaked. Based on recent leaks and rumors, the first two smartphones in this new series will be the Galaxy C5 and Galaxy, boasting 5.7-inch and 5.2-inch full HD displays respectively.

Both smartphones are likely to come with quite a few similar specifications, including Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, Snapdragon 617 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphones are also expected to come with 64GB built-in storage, 16-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel selfie camera. The Galaxy C5 will be powered by a 2,600mAh battery while a 3,300mAh battery will power the Galaxy C7.

The new Galaxy series is expected to be priced higher than Samsung’s E and J range, but lower than the A and S portfolio. The Samsung Galaxy C5 is rumored to be come with a price tag of $245 (Rs 16,400 approximately) while the Galaxy C7 is expected to be priced around $276 (Rs 18,500 approximately).

Looking at the specifications and prices, the Galaxy C series is likely to be targeted at the mid-range segment. If launched in India, the smartphones will compete with the powerhouses like the OnePlus 2 and Asus Zenfone 2 among others. It is worth pointing out here that both OnePlus and Asus are going to soon launch their 2016 flagship smartphones, which are also expected to be in the same price vicinity. But the Galaxy C range of smartphones could give Samsung a greater presence in the Rs 16,000-Rs 20,000 segment.
