Social media cannot stop talking about the TV news anchor who had ‘shut the f**k up’ written on her t-shirt

A TV news anchor wore a t-shirt that read ‘shut the f**k up’ and now the social media is finding it hard to shut up about it.

It’s no news that social media can be very unforgiving sometimes. The latest instance is on a TV news anchor who wore a t-shirt with graphics that the Indian audience does not “expect” a news anchor to wear. An anchor of a local Kannada news channel TV 9 went on air wearing a t-shirt that read ‘shut the f**k up’. Moments after the anchor went on air, a viewer from Bengaluru clicked the image of the television and put up the picture on Imgur, with a title, ‘Bangalore local news TV anchor forgets to check her t-shirt before going on show’. Imgur is an image sharing online network. Since then, Imgur, Twitter and other social media platforms have been going gaga mocking the TV anchor and her choice of t-shirt to go on television.

The image was posted on Imgur two days ago, and it already has over 1.2 million views. The post was flooded by comments, with people trying to figure out if there was a hidden reason behind her wearing the t-shirt. Many went on to ask where they could get the t-shirt, while a user on Twitter found the source of the ‘trending t-shirt’.

By now, the t-shirt itself is trending as much as the post of the news anchor on the social media. People find the t-shirt perfectly appropriate for Fridays at work.

@tyrantasorus @KyaUkhaadLega @tv9kannada @Tv9kannadanews @tv9_kannada why did you give job to such careless and senseless people.

However, everything said and done, the social media turns too merciless sometimes. This isn’t the first time that a TV news anchors, especially women, have been attacked for what they wear. Few months ago, in KTLA 5, a California, Los Angeles based news channel asked their news anchor to cover up, which created a havoc on social media. Meteorologist Liberté Chan was handed a grey cardigan to cover up what she was wearing live on-air, because apparently the news channel was getting emails about the dress of the weather anchor.

Social media platforms are essentially the most easily accessible mouthpiece for anyone and everyone to project and share their ideas with the world. However, this core feature of social media also has a flipside, which is the world ganging up against people or thoughts that are different or the ones that don’t match their own. It is turning into a virtual war zone!
