There’s a new iPad coming, but it may not be the Air 3

A new report claims that while Apple is gearing up to launch a new iPad in March, it will carry the moniker “iPad Pro” instead of “iPad Air 3,” as was previously rumored.

Word of the new iPad began popping up a few months ago, suggesting it would be the third iteration of the iPad Air, but sources speaking to 9to5Mac say it will in fact be a 9.7-inch iPad Pro. This would make it a smaller option than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro launched last November.

The switcheroo actually doesn’t come as too much of a surprise since it’s been rumored all along that Apple’s new tablet would carry much of the same specs as the iPad Pro, including its RAM, processor and the inclusion of four speakers.

According to the report, it will also have the same color and storage options as well as support for the Apple Pencil. Apple is also expected to launch a smaller Smart Keyboard to better fit the new iPad Pro.

Unfortunately, we still don’t have any news on whether the new iPad Pro will be more affordable than its larger sibling. However, we should hear more in just a couple of weeks, as Apple is expected to host a March 15 event to launch the new iPad alongside a 4-inch iPhone 5SE and new Apple Watch bands.
