Truecaller launches TrueSDK for third-party apps to make user verifications easy

Truecaller has launched a user verification SDK for third-party apps with the aim to make user verification easy. This feature will allow apps to verify users based on their information with Truecaller.

Most mobile apps these days requiring any sort of login process ask users to enter their mobile phone number as well as other personal details. To make this process easy, Truecaller is launching a new software development kit(SDK) for third-party apps. Using this feature, apps will be able to take user information from one’s Truecaller profile, and thus making the process of filing forms irrelevant.

The rationale behind TrueSDK is to make the signing process on apps easier. “Globally if you see the phone number has become an important identity for a user,” Priyam Bose, Director Worldwide Developer Relations at Truecaller, tells BGR India. “While mobilization of use cases are happening in market like India, there’s a lot of friction that exists when an end consumer uses an app for the first time. So given these circumstances we said that we are in a position to launch a product that simplifies the onboarding process of a user in any third-party app using the verified phone number of the user.”

Much like how some apps support logins via Facebook and Google accounts, verified Truecaller phone numbers too will play a part in the signup process. Bose takes a grocery app to explain how TrueSDK make lives simpler.

“When using the grocery app for the first time, signing up is where TrueSDK simplifies the process using one’s verified phone numbers and profile instead of manually filing up each and every field. Secondly, when checking out items, there is another round of verification that happens using my phone number, and that’s again where TrueSDK allows users to seamlessly check out,” Bose adds.

Truecaller has initially partnered 12 Indian apps, which will boast the TrueSDK feature. These include Quikr, Mobikwik, redBus, CarDekho, BharatMatrimony.com, ixigo, OYO Rooms, TO THE NEW Digital, FreshMenu, Terraa, Cash Care and ShopClues.

“As the next billion come online there is a trend of using mobile phone number as the primary identifier,” Nami Zarringhalam, Chief Strategy Officer and co-founder of Truecaller says. “Most folks that have been online for a while have been using desktops and for them emails were their number one identifier, but as we are moving on to smartphones, we are seeing an increased dependency on phone numbers.

“Developers have reached out to us saying one of their major pain points is onboarding of users,” he adds. “Truecaller has already verified a large number of users, and that is why this becomes an important step for people who come online for the first time and with this simplification, exploring apps becomes easier as well.”

Interestingly, TrueSDK is free for developers to use, and the company has no plans to charge them for the service any time soon. The feature is currently only available on Android, and the company also plans on increasing the number of partners in the near future.

Towards the end of last year, Truecaller announced that it now has more than 200 million active users globally. In India, the company boasts more than 100 million active users, and there is a lot of focus on the market as well. Apart from partnering OEMs like Samsung, Microsoft, Intex, Micromax, and Lenovo among others, the Truecaller has also launched India-specific products like Hindi transliteration feature for Caller IDs.
