Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 to launch in India on September 21: Price, features and specifications

Xiaomi looks all geared up to launch its Air Purifier 2 in India soon. The company has started sending invites for the event on September 21 in New Delhi.

Besides smartphones, tablets and accessories, Xiaomi has a long list of products under its portfolio, which it calls the Mi Ecosystem. After a long wait, Xiaomi is finally bringing the first of its smart home appliance products in India with the Mi Air Purifier 2. With most cities facing tremendous amounts of air pollution levels, the air purifier could be a perfect tool to ensure pollution free and safe breathing air in our homes. Xiaomi first introduced the air purifier in December 2014, after which it launched a smaller and improved air purifier in November 2015. It has also sent out media invites for the launch event which is set to take place on September 21.

The Mi Air Purifier 2 is lighter and more compact than the first generation model. It features dimensions of 520x240mm compared to 735x260mm on the first-gen Mi Air Purifier. In other words, the base area of the Mi Air Purifier 2 is smaller than a regular A4 size paper. Despite having a compact design, it offers a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) 310m3/h, Xiaomi claims.

The setup on the Mi Air Purifier 2 features a single motor with dual mixed booster fans, and a three layer filter. Xiaomi says that the new setup on the Air Purifier 2 helps to ensure that it is 11 percent quieter than its predecessor, with lowest noise level at 30db. The second gen air purifier is also said to be up to 58 percent more power efficient compared to its predecessor. The Mi Air Purifier 2 can remove up to 99.7 percent of the PM2.5 particulates in less than an hour, Xiaomi says.

One of the biggest features that differentiates the Mi Air Purifier 2 from regular air purifiers is that users can control it remotely from a smartphone using the Mi Smart House App. The unit connects using Wi-Fi, and when you’re away from home, you can test the air quality in your home, as well as adjust the mode for operation. However, your home Wi-Fi should be kept on and connected to the internet for this to work.
