Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air launched: Price, specifications and features

Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook Air is like an Apple MacBook Air, but with gaming hardware inside. Xiaomi has launched two variants — 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch — with prices starting from around Rs 35,300.

In addition to launching the Redmi Pro smartphone, Xiaomi today also took the wraps off its first-ever laptop, called the Mi Notebook Air. The overall design is in line with the photos that leaked yesterday, and Xiaomi’s MacBook Air competitor will be available in two variants — 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch. The Mi Notebook Air is going on sale in China, but there is no word on whether Xiaomi plans on launching it in any other country.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air price

The 12.5-inch Mi Notebook Air is priced at 3,499 Yuan, which is Rs 35,300 approximately. The bigger 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air, on the other hand, is priced at 4,999 Yuan, which is Rs 50,400 approximately.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air features

The Mi Notebook Air sports a thin full-metal body, and Xiaomi says that the laptop has been put through a Borax anodized process. The 12.5-inch variant is sized like a magazine with a thickness of 12.9mm and weighs 1.07kg. The 13.3-inch variant too is sleek with a 14.8mm thickness and weighs 1.28kg. Xiaomi compared its new laptop with Apple‘s MacBook Air claiming how despite featuring the same 13.3-inch screen, the Mi Notebook Air is up to 11 percent smaller.

The laptop features an HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port and 3.5mm audio jack on the left, while on the right is a USB 3.0 port and USB Type-C port for charging. However, the 12.5-inch variant comes only with one USB 3.0 port. Unlike what was leaked yesterday, the Mi Notebook Air does feature a backlit keyboard similar to the Apple MacBook Air.

On the software front, the Mi Notebook Air runs on Microsoft’s Windows 10. You can sync data like contacts, messages, gallery and notes among others from your Xiaomi smartphone using Mi Cloud. The laptop also supports Bluetooth 4.1, which can be used to connect to wearables like the Mi Band 2. Speaking of which, the laptop automatically unlocks when you have a connected Mi Band 2 in its close proximity. For audiophiles, the Mi Notebook Air comes with a AKG custom grade dual speakers and supports Dolby Digital surround sound.

Surprisingly the laptops do not come with any branding on the top. In order to let users a play a little with the look of the laptop, Xiaomi has launched a few leather sleeves and laptop skins for both the variants to enable personalizing the device.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air specifications

Both Mi Notebook Air variants feature a full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with edge-to-edge glass protection that prevents discoloration when touching the screen. Under the hood, the 12.5-inch variant features an Intel Core M3 processor with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 128GB SATA SSD with expandable SSD slot. The 13.3-inch variant, on the other hand, features an Intel Core i5 sixth generation processor, NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM and 256GB SSD with expandable SSD slot.

The Mi Notebook Air is quite portable, and boasts enough battery life that won’t have users running to a plug point every few hours. Xiaomi claims that the battery on the 12.5-inch variant is good enough to last up to 11.5 hours on a single charge, while the battery on the 13.3-inch variant is good enough for up to 9.5 hours. The battery can also be recharged quickly, and in just 30 minutes one will be able to recharge up to 50 percent of the battery.

There is no word on whether Xiaomi is planning to launch the Mi Notebook Air in India.
