Xiaomi Redmi Pro Mini with 5.2-inch display, no dual-camera setup leaked: Price, specifications, features

The Xiaomi Redmi Pro Mini has leaked barely a week after the launch of the Redmi Pro in China. This variant comes with a smaller display and without the dual-camera setup at the back.

It’s been barely a week since Xiaomi launched the Redmi Pro in China, and already there are rumors about an upcoming variant of the smartphone. A leak on Weibo suggests that Xiaomi is planning on launching a new smartphone, called the Redmi Pro Mini. As the name suggests, it will be a compact device, and unlike the Redmi Pro, the mini variant will only have a single camera at the back.

Xiaomi is expected to launch three variants of the Redmi Pro Mini differentiated on the storage front. The 32GB variant with 3GB of RAM will be the base variant priced at 1,499 Yuan (Rs 15,000 approximately). The mid-variant will feature 32GB storage along with 4GB of RAM at a price tag of 1,699 Yuan (Rs 17,000 approximately). Lastly, the top-end variant with 128GB storage and 4GB of RAM will be priced at 1,899 Yuan (Rs 19,000 approximately).

Xiaomi Redmi Pro Mini specifications

As per the leakster, the Redmi Pro Mini will feature a 5.2-inch AMOLED display and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 chipset. It will also come with a 4,000mAh battery with fast charging support, and unlike the Redmi Pro, this upcoming smartphone will only have a single-lens camera at the back.

In comparison, the Redmi Pro was launched with a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) OLED display with 2.5D glass, and is available in three variants — 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The 32GB variant runs a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The top end variants are powered by Helio X25 deca-core processor with Mali-T880 GPU. The 64GB variant comes with 3GB of RAM while the 128GB one comes with 4GB of RAM.

The highlight of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro is the dual-camera setup at the back. This includes a 13-megapixel camera with Sony IMX 258 sensor that captures still images, and a 5-megapixel snapper with Samsung sensor that captures depth information. The primary camera is also accompanied by a dedicated depth of field image sensor and supports Dynamic depth of field. Here’s a detailed post on how the camera functions.

The 32GB variant is priced at 1,499 Yuan (Rs 15,100 approximately), the 64GB variant is priced at 1,699 Yuan (Rs 17,100 approximately), and the 128GB variant is priced at 1,999 Yuan (Rs 20,100 approximately).

Interestingly, despite the difference in specifications and features, the price tags are almost on par. If Xiaomi does stick to the rumored price tags, it will make little sense for a person to choose the Redmi Pro Mini over the better equipped Redmi Pro. That said, the Redmi Pro Mini is powered by a Qualcomm processor, and unlike the Redmi Pro, can be launched in countries like India almost immediately after launch.
