Xiaomi Redmi Pro teaser hints at OLED display, 10-core processor

The Xiaomi Redmi Pro is turning out to be quite a mid-range flagship smartphone with an OLED display, 10-core processor and dual cameras. It is launching on July 27 in China.

Ahead of the July 27 launch in China, Xiaomi has started teasing its next smartphone, the Redmi Pro. One of the teasers posted last week hinted at dual camera setup at the back. Now, a couple of latest teasers on Weibo have hinted at two more hardware details the smartphone will feature — an OLED display and MediaTek’s 10-core processor.

The first teaser features celebrity Chef Liu Shi Shi, who claims to be cooking an OLED Ping, which hints that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro could feature an OLED display. In the next teaser, the celebrity hints at cooking a dish called “ten nuclear double stem head” and “brushed gold potato,” which hints that the smartphone could feature a deca-core processor. This is in line with the previous leak that pointed to MediaTek’s MT6797M 64-bit deca-core processor under the hood.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro specifications

While the teaser hints at OLED display, there is no word on the size and resolution. However, assuming 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) has become a standard for most smartphones, we would be surprised if it turns out to be true. The alleged smartphone was also recently spotted on Geekbench listing, which revealed MediaTek Helio X25 deca-core processor, paired with 4GB of RAM. Another variant with 3GB of RAM could also be expected.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro features

For shutterbugs, the smartphone could sport a dual camera setup at the back, which was spotted in the recently leaked promotional photo. The Xiaomi Redmi Pro has a unibody metal design and while the fingerprint scanner is missing from the back, it could likely be present in the front, embedded within the home button.

With connectivity options such as Bluetooth, 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and GPS, the smartphone is likely to run MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box. One of the rumors also hinted that Xiaomi may employ a USB Type-C connector for charging and data transfer.

The launch is scheduled for July 27 in Beijing.
