Pokemon Sun and Moon are coming to Nintendo Switch – report

Game Freak is developing a version of Pokemon Sun and Moon for Nintendo Switch known as Pokemon Stars, according to a new report.

Eurogamer claims to have heard from several sources that Nintendo has plans to release the title in 2017 for its new console.

This will be the first mainstream Pokemon title in history to be playable on TVs, moving the handheld icon from portable to home console for the very first time.

Pokemon Stars will reportedly include features “not in found in the 3DS” version alongside support for Pokemon Bank and other such services.

We can also expect some visual enhancements and small mechanical additions on the Switch, all of which remain unconfirmed.

If true, Sun and Moon releasing on the Switch is a brave move by Nintendo, setting a high precedent for cross-platform play between home and portable consoles moving forward.

Could we see franchises previously exclusive to Nintendo 3DS make their way over to console? The Japanese company would be wise to aim for a single, unified platform that benefits all franchises.

We’ve yet to smack a score on our Pokemon Sun and Moon review, but Games Editor Brett Phipps had very positive things to say in his review-in-progress:

“Pokémon Sun and Moon prove that with steady innovation an old dog can certainly learn new tricks. The developers should be applauded for being consistently brave in making changes to the series that appease both newcomers and series veterans alike.”

“Providing the multiplayer servers hold up and can deliver the type of performance Battle Royal deserves, this will undoubtedly be the best entry in the series since its debut back in 1998.”
