The Google IO developers’ conference concluded on Wednesday, but not before CEO Sundar Pichai took to the stage and laid down the future roadmap for Android, Google Home, Assistant, the VR and Artifical intelligence – these are among some other massive announcements. Google has done away with the practice of making major hardware announcements or launches of new flagship devices and instead, has taken to the pattern of informing its consumers about the new developments that the company is working on and its plans for the future. Pichai started with the announcement that over 1 billion active users are making use of the company’s products. To put things in perspective, Google has, in recent times, tried to reinvent itself as an Artificial Intelligence company, a company of Virtual reality, an inventor of modern gadgets.

Google Lens:

The Google Assistant, with the help of the Google Lens will recognise the world around you. Remember Tony Stark in the Iron Man suit, when Jarvis gives him every detail of everything around him, including the Shwarma restaurant, during the middle of an alien invasion? Sort of like that. The Google Lens will use your smartphone camera to examine your immediate environment and provide you with relevant information. For example, if you see a plant or an animal, that you are not sure of, you can just touch or pat, point your smartphone camera at it and your Google Assistant will find you the species, nature, food habits of the said flora or fauna. It basically works like a Google search, only difference being, you can now use pictures and videos to do the search. Or, you might want to dine out at some restaurant you see on the street and you may be unaware about the credentials, just point your device in the right direction and you can find the ratings of the place. Google might also pull up a menu or find if seating is available.

Google Home

Google is developing the app into a phone. Within the next few months, all owners of Google Home would be able to place free calls to the USA and Canada. Google uses a private number for the purpose, but the users could sync their personal numbers to these features. And this could be done by everybody else in the house since the calls use the multi-user set up. What this basically means is that you could ask Google Home to say “Call Dad” and it would find the right person depending on the user making the call.

Google Home can also control HBO Now, Hulu, SoundCloud among other things. According to the Verge, the company might also be giving you the access to the Bluetooth Radia, which means you can treat it like a normal Bluetooth Speaker. Google Home can use the Google Assistant to give you the correct information, to the tiniest of detail. For example, you can ask for directions to a place and it would send the concerned directions to the Google Maps for you.

Google says that the viewership of YouTube on Television was growing at 90%. So it would be adding the additional feature supporting 360 videos on the YouTube app on TV. It was reported that the Live 360-degree video would also be added to the app. There will also be another feature known as the Super Chat. This is basically a medium for you to connect with Content creators on YouTube; content creators such as TVF or AIB among other firms.

Google Virtual Reality:

Google is expanding the capabilities of Daydream. The current form of the Daydream device will demand that you have a smartphone connected to the device at all times. However, in its path of expansion, Google announced that the next flagship devices from its Virtual reality partners, HTC and Lenovo will not be needing a smartphone to provide the users with the experience of virtual reality. Google will be introducing a new tech from its Tango augmented system, known as the “Worldsense”, and the headsets would be able to track the virtual space around you.

Google is still chasing after the next billion users. And in an attempt to do so, it has introduced Android Go. Built on the Android O (first beta available today). The Android Go has been a reformed version, which will have apps that use less memory, storage and data to function properly. It will also be having its own play store. This Operating System has been built with the intentions to run on cheaper smartphones. Though this is still at a developing stage, Google seemed really sure abut its ability to deliver what consumers want.
