The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy was one of 2017’s surprise hits, having sold millions of copies to gamers nostalgic for the orange marsupial. This popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed by Activision, who allegedly has a five-year plan for the platformer with a new title coming our way in 2019. If rumours ring true, we’re in for a treat.

Crash Bandicoot PS4 release date – When is it coming out?
According to a European licensing manual a new title in the Crash Bandicoot franchise is in development for a 2019 release.
“There will be another game in 2019,” said Max Arguile, the licensing manager at merchandising company GB Eye. “Activision has a five-year plan for this and GB Eye is delighted to be on board for all products.”
The report also makes mention of the N.Sane trilogy coming to PC and Nintendo Switch, although there’s sadly no mention of Xbox One.

Modern platforming innovation
It’d be fair to say that revisiting the original trilogy with a shiny coat of paint was an inconsistent experience. Visually, it was great, but the stage design and controls sadly haven’t stood the test of time against the likes of Super Mario 64.
We’d love to see Crash Bandicoot rebuilt for the modern era with platforming mechanics that feel more aligned with modern greats, giving the likes of Mario, Cuphead and even Knack a run for their money. The developers have a great opportunity to apply a little bit of shine to the ageing formula.
Bigger and better levels
Despite being one of the first 3D platformers back in the 1990s, many of Crash Bandicoot’s levels were predominantly linear with the exception of a few collectibles and time trials you could revisit for 100% completion. Some of these were incredibly challenging but seldom expand upon the predominant level design.
We’d love to the see the upcoming entry evolve the original formula, whether it be providing Crash with an expansive hub world or levels with multiple pathways that delivers replay value and a bit of extra intuition when navigating them. The best thing about this is you can still keep all the precious hidden objects and time trials hardcore fans love.
Bring back all the classic characters
Crash isn’t Crash without the lovable personalities of Coco, Neo Cortex, Aku Aku and Tiny The Tiger. These are characters that are etched into the minds of millions.
It’s understandable that many fans will be expecting their return once a new entry finally emerges. This is something we’d like to see, too. Although a smattering of new faces alongside a new antagonist certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
An upgradable skill tree
Later Crash titles meddled with the idea of unlockable skills after each boss battle but never really gave control of these over to the player. It’d be exciting to see modern Crash Bandicoot adopt a more comprehensive upgrade system that allowed players to experiment with new moves and skills to their liking.
Not only would this encourage further replay value, it could also lend an extra bit of challenge to proceedings as we strive to figure out which skills are suitable for what situation. In addition, a simplified model for younger gamers would be great, too.
Unlockable costumes
This is a no-brainer considering how much personality the Crash Bandicoot universe has. This could be expanded further with unlockable costumes that could either be inspired by each level or other characters in the gaming medium. Attire that pokes fun at fellow platforming legends or act as clever easter eggs would be great.
