There was never much doubt that the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S7 would be called the Samsung Galaxy S8, given that Samsung has stuck with this naming scheme since the beginning, but it’s now more or less confirmed.
The company has filed an application with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) for protection of the Galaxy S8 name, so that’s sure to be the name it launches under.
What this application doesn’t answer is what the larger handset expected to launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be called.
Edge or Plus?
While a continuation of the Edge range with the Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge might seem the most obvious answer, there’s a suggestion that all Samsung’s S8 models will be curved, in which case the Edge moniker would be superfluous. So might it be called the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus instead?
We should know soon, as the two phones are expected to launch some time in the next few months, possibly as soon as MWC 2017 at the end of February.
Rumors so far suggest they could come with 4K displays, dual-lens cameras, lots of power and an AI assistant among other things, so they should be worth the wait.
