Spider-Man PS4 release date, trailer, pre-order info and everything we know

A PS4-exclusive Spider-Man game was a huge surprise at last year’s E3. Developed by Insomniac Games, creator of Resistance, Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank, relatively little was known about the game up until this year’s E3 event – only that it will include PS4 Pro support.

But now, with E3 2017 out of the way, we’ve got a brand new, proper gameplay trailer, as well as the revelation that the game will launch in 2018.

TrustedReviews has rounded up everything you need to know about Spider-Man PS4 and we’ll be updating this page as new information crops up, so make sure you bookmark it!

SPIDER-MAN PS4 RELEASE DATE – WHEN CAN WE START WEB-SLINGING?

Spider-Man PS4 doesn’t have a firm release date yet, all we know is it’s coming sometime in 2018.

The news that the game would launch next year came at E3 2017, with the launch of a new gameplay trailer that teased the 2018 launch. Beyond that, we don’t have an actual release date

Fans will no doubt be disappointed to learn of the game’s 2018 launch, as previously, Ryan Penagos, vice president and executive editor of Marvel Digital Media, said (via Reddit):

“There’s even more on the horizon for 2017 like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC.”

However, it now seems we have to wait until next year.

2018 does make a lot of sense, however. With huge hitters like Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty WW2, Middle Earth: Shadow of War and Star Wars Battlefront 2 all launching this year, Insomniac will undoubtedly do well to avoid the huge competition.

SPIDER-MAN PS4 TRAILERS – HOW’S IT LOOK?

E3 brought us a new, 9 minute-long, gameplay trailer that treated us to previews of the combat, stealth, and web-slinging gameplay. It’s an impressive clip that does a great job of showcasing the various types of mechanics we’ll be getting to grips with come launch.

Plus, it features Miles Morales, (the current Spider-Man in the comics), who shows up at the end of the clip. Does that mean he is, in fact, Spidey in the game? Here’s the trailer:

Prior to the gameplay trailer, all we had was a single trailer for Spider-Man PS4, which was shown off at Sony’s E3 2016 press conference. Take a look below:

IS SPIDER-MAN PS4 RELATED TO THE SPIDER-MAN MOVIES?

This is a standalone game, unrelated to either the previous Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, or upcoming Amazing Spider-Man movies. That means it will tell its own unique story and not reflect the events from the movies.

SPIDER-MAN PS4 GAMEPLAY – HOW DOES IT LOOK?

Based on the new trailer, Spidey will once again be swinging from rooftops and be able to explore all of New York City, even being able to web swing and run through shops and bars as he chases bad guys.

We also get to see Spider-Man chase down bad guys in cars and apprehend them in webs as well as take on bank robbers, it all looks really exciting. Hopefully the parkour controls are as free-flowing as the trailer makes them appear to be.
