Apple iPhone 7 lineup to start with 32GB variant, will be water resistant: WSJ

The iPhone 7 will finally spell the end of the inadequate 16GB storage variant.

If you were to believe all the recent rumors, the upcoming Apple iPhone 7 won’t look drastically different from last year’s iPhone 6s. But that doesn’t mean it won’t have new features or something to talk about. At least one rumor that has us excited is about Apple finally ditching the base 16GB model. After a few sketchy rumors, the WSJ now has a confirmation of sorts, and the iPhone 7 is highly likely to have 32GB as the base model.

“The new iPhones are expected to have more storage for those photos. Instead of 16GB as a starting point for the entry-level iPhone, the new starting point will be 32GB, according to a person familiar with Apple’s iPhone plans,” the report states. This change is long overdue in our opinion and something that has been requested by users for a long time. With improved cameras and 4K video recording capabilities, a 16GB iPhone model is grossly inadequate, and finally Apple seems to be addressing that.

The report also adds weight to some of the recent rumors that we have come across. These include water resistant capabilities on the new iPhone, and the tweaked design that includes moving the antenna lines to the extreme edges of the iPhone. Apple also seems to be ditching the 3.5mm audio jack in order to make the iPhone slimmer, and will use the Lightning port for charging and audio.

The iPhone 7 will come with a bigger camera module, while the iPhone 7 Plus will boast the much-rumored dual-camera setup. The two camera lenses will be used to shoot photos with better quality and depth-of-field, and Apple is likely to leverage expertise of its acquired companies like PrimeSense and LinX.

Other rumors include a new Space Black color variant, a home button with Force Touch, and a combination of Apple’s next-gen A10 processor and 2GB of RAM. The iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, is expected to feature 3GB of RAM.
