Boxing legend Muhammad Ali dies at 74, social media flooded with condolences for the champion

Ali was admitted in the hospital with a respiratory problem.

Muhammad Ali, the former heavyweight world champion and boxing legend, passed away at the age of 74 in a US hospital. He was hospitalized on Thursday suffering from respiratory trouble due to a complicated Parkinson disease which Ali had been battling for the past 32 years.

“After a 32-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening,” Bob Gunnell, a family spokesman, told NBC News.

Born as Cassius Clay on Jan 17, 1942, before converting to Islam, Ali started his boxing training at the age of 12 years. In 1964, at the age of 22, he won the World heavyweight championship. He again won the title in 1974 and 1978. One of the greatest and legendary boxers in the history, Ali retired in 1981 after experiencing signs of sluggishness and neurological damage. He thereafter received treatment for Parkinson’s disease.

Soon after the news of Ali’s death triggered, the Twitterati express was quick enough to mourn the loss of one of the greatest boxing legends. Right from the likes of Apple CEO Tim Cook to Donald Trump, have all tweeted about Muhammad Ali.
