Dear Apple, here’s what the internet thinks of your new AirPods

The new Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are here, and one of the biggest talking points is the absence of the audio jack. Apple also unveiled its first ever truly wireless earphones, AirPods, and here’s what the internet thought about it.

At the event last night, Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones, along with the second generation of the Apple Watch Series 2. There were a bunch of announcements by the tech giant that received big hoots from the fans. Apple has finally made the new iPhones water resistant, it was high time the company brought the change. Other than that, after all the rumors and speculations, Apple did drop the 3.5mm audio jack, which according to Apple took a lot of ‘Courage’. But one of the biggest attractions of the event were the first-ever truly wireless earphones from Apple, which it is calling the AirPods.

Although the rumors were always in the air about Apple working on wireless earphones, the company still took the world by surprise. The tech giant unveiled these impressive looking earphones, complementing its headphone jack-less smartphone design. While social media was quite excited when Apple took the wraps off the AirPods, the reactions weren’t necessarily positive. People took to Twitter immediately after the announcement and mocked the wireless earphone left, right and center. While many were surprised by the exorbitant price tag that the AirPods come with, some were just not ready to handle a wireless earphone. People are dragging the AirPod memes all over the internet.

I’ve been searching for a set of headphones that would be even easier for me to lose, and more expensive. https://t.co/w8VUvswXXV

#AirPod because headphones weren’t already easy enough to go missing. — Akhri Pasta (@TheLitttleLiar) September 8, 2016

It’s probably just me but these #AirPod things are a bit silly aren’t they? Silly money for a pair of earphones that you’ll prob lose. — Lee Westney (@westney1979) September 8, 2016

“Tired of headphone cords getting tangled in your pocket? Well, what if we told you that you could lose your earbuds immediately?” — (((ByYourLogic))) (@Ugarles) September 7, 2016

The demise of the audio jack didn’t go down too well with the internet either, people want their audio jack back!

Time of headphone jack death: 11:23AM. Cause of death: lightning strike.

Even Apple is no less. At the time of announcement of Apple dropping the headphone jack with the new iPhones, Apple took the feels a notch higher than was required, and made it sound like they were some sort of heroes for eliminating the jack. Apple said, “It comes down to one word: Courage.” According to Apple, of all things, it took “courage” to drop the headphone jack. Of course Twitter had no time for that.

There’s a lot wrong in the world and yet I find myself especially furious that Apple said they removed the headphone jack because “courage.”

Courage. D-Day. Moon landing. Removing the headphone port.

Apple AirPods look almost exactly similar to the existing EarPods, just that these are without a cable. It almost seems as if Apple didn’t spare too much time on the designing of the AirPods. Like the EarPods, the AirPods too have that extended tail from the plugs. However, under the hood, there are some impressive changes. Apple is using new technology for its earphones and has created a custom W1 chipset to power the AirPods. Also, one really cool thing is the case that the AirPods come in, which also doubles as the charger for the wireless earphones. The case can be charged using the lightning cable.

Apple also claims that AirPods offer up to five hours of listening and with the charging case users will be able to get up to 24 hours listening time. The AirPods are priced at a whopping Rs 15,400 and will go on sale sometime in late October.
