With the new Desire 10 Pro and Desire 10 Lifestyle smartphones, HTC seems more focused on design than the specification sheet. It will be interesting to see if they can compete against other smartphones.
HTC’s flagship 10 smartphone may not have done that well in the market despite all the critical acclaim it received, but that isn’t discouraging the company any bit. Today, HTC is updating its Desire series of smartphones and has launched two new devices — Desire 10 Pro and the Desire 10 Lifestyle. A look at the smartphone’s specification sheet reveals that the Desire 10 Pro is the more premium variant and should be placed somewhere close to the Desire 830, while the Desire 10 Lifestyle will be placed close to the Desire 826.
Considering they are part of the Desire series, the Desire 10 Pro and Desire 10 Lifestyle are mid-level smartphones but with premium design. Both share a largely similar design, but the spec sheet vastly differ. On the features front, the Desire 10 Pro comes with a fingerprint scanner placed at the back, while the Desire 10 Lifestyle features support for 24-bit Hi-Res audio, Dolby-enhanced BoomSound speakers. Despite the current trend, HTC’s new smartphones feature a plastic body with a metallic frame, but the overall look is quite premium nonetheless. Both devices will be available in four color variants — black, white, blue, and another pale blue color HTC calls ‘Valentine Lux’.
HTC Desire 10 Pro specifications
The HTC Desire 10 Pro flaunts 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor paired. The smartphone will be available in two variants — 32GB storage variant with 3GB of RAM, and 64GB storage variant with 4GB of RAM. There is also a microSD card slot to expand the onboard memory.
In the photography department, the Desire 10 Pro is equipped with a 20-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, while up front is a 13-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture. The smartphone also features a fingerprint scanner placed at the back, a 3,000mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/GLONASS. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow wrapped under the Sense UI.
HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle specifications
The HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle, on the other hand, flaunts a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) Super LCD display, and is powered by a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. It is a tad baffling that HTC has opted for a rather outdated Snapdragon 400 processor. This smartphone too will be available in two variants — 16GB storage variant with 2GB of RAM, and 32GB storage variant with 3GB of RAM. There is also a microSD card slot to expand the onboard memory.

HTC Desire 10 Pro, Desire 10 Lifestyle price
The Desire 10 Lifestyle is going on sale in select markets with a price tag of £249 (Rs 21,700 approximately). The Desire 10 Pro will be going on sale sometime in October, but there is no word on a price tag. HTC also hasn’t revealed when the new smartphones could be launched in other countries, including India. The pricing is baffling, especially considering, that smartphones with better features and hardware than the Desire 10 Lifestyle are easily available for below Rs 10,000. We shudder even while trying to imagine how HTC would price the Desire 10 Pro, which has “better” hardware than the Desire 10 Lifestyle. HTC hopes that its brand image and existing users would continue to be loyal to them, but with such outrageous pricing for outdated hardware, that seems unlikely.
