Huawei Mate 9 leaked promo image reveals 20-megapixel dual-cameras, Kirin 960 processor

A new leaked image of the Huawei Mate 9 has been spotted online. But, some websites claim the image is a fake one as it looks exactly like the old Huawei Mate 8.

Huawei has been long rumored to be launching another smartphone with dual camera set up. Believed to be successor to the Huawei Mate 8, rumors the smartphone, dubbed as the Mate 9, have been making rounds for quite some time now. Interestingly, details about the Mate 9 had emerged back in April via analyst Pan Jiutang, who claimed the device will be launched in December this year. The biggest highlight of the rumored smartphone is the dual-camera setup, which we have already seen on a the Huawei P9. Recently launched in India, the Huawei P9 boasts of two rear cameras, one for RGB and another one for monochrome, and has been approved by German optics maker Leica. The Huawei Mate 9 will most probably will have the same dual-camera setup, but will also have the Optical Image Stablization (OIS), which was missing on the Huawei P9. A new leaked promo image of the Huawei P9 has been spotted online, divulging a few details about the smartphone.

Before we elaborate, it is worth pointing out here that the some websites are claiming that this leaked image is probably fake as the device shown is of the Huawei Mate 8. We suggest you to take the following information with pinch of salt. According to the image, the Mate 9 has a dual camera on the back along fingerprint scanner below it. The volume and power buttons are on the right side. The front panel has front camera on the top while the bottom has just Huawei branding. The smartphone is likely to have on-screen navigation and home buttons. Based on the image, the smartphone is likely to have metal body.

Huawei Mate 9 specifications

According to analyst Pan Jiutang, the Huawei Mate 9 would be launched in late 2016 along with Huawei’s homegrown Kirin 960 chipset. It is the same processor that powers the Huawei P9. According to rumors and leaks so far, the Huawei Mate 9 will come with 6GB of RAM and internal storage could be 64GB or 128GB. On the photography front, as mentioned above, the rear dual-cameras will be 20-megapixels and is expected to include optical image stabilization (OIS). The dual-cameras are also expected to get Leica branding like the Huawei P9. On the software front, the Huawei Mate 9 is expected run on Android 7.0 Nougat wrapped under Emotion UI 5.0.

In comparison, the Huawei Mate 8 comes in a 6-inch full HD display along with a Kirin 950 octa-core processor running under the hood. The smartphone is available in three variants of 3GB RAM and 64GB RAM with storage options of 32GB and 128GB. Huawei’s Mate 8 sports a 16-megapixel f/2.0 rear camera with Sony IMX298 image sensor, 1.12um pixel size, PDAF and OIS. For selfies, it has an 8-megapixel f/2.4 front camera with Sony IMX179 image sensor. The Huawei Mate 8 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped under EMUI 4.0. It is powered by a 4,00mAh battery.
