LG recently applied for the G5 SE trademark, and while one would expect the company to release a compact smartphone, turns out it could be a stripped down version of the G5.
A couple of weeks ago, we came across a ‘Lite’ variant of the LG G5 running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 chipset, and the more recent LG G5 SE trademark. While the G5 SE was expected to be the compact variant, just like the compact Apple iPhone SE, turns out, it could the less powerful variant of the flagship smartphone, the LG G5.
The LG G5 SE is nothing but the official name for the ‘Lite’ variant running on Snapdragon 652 processor rather than Snapdragon 820, Android Authority reports. The publication also notes that the ‘SE’ variant is specially designed for Latin America, China and other regions. Besides the slower chipset, it will also come slightly lesser, 3GB of RAM as opposed to 4GB.
Everything else about both smartphones remains the same, which includes the screen size, design with replaceable modular components and more. This also explains why the previously leaked Quick Cover claimed to be compatible with both, the LG G5 and the LG G5 SE. As LG hasn’t announced the smartphone yet, we’ll have to wait till the Korean giant makes things official.
In comparison, the LG G5 sports a 5.3-inch QHD IPS display with pixel density of 554 ppi. It is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32GB onboard storage, expendable via microSD card up to 2TB.
For photography, the G5 is equipped with a dual-camera set-up – a standard 16-megapixel 78-degree lens and an 8-megapixel 135-degree wide angle lens to allow users capture higher quality images. Up front is an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
With connectivity options such as LTE, USB Type C, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2, the G5 is armed with a 2,800 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 feature. A fingerprint scanner is also present at the back, just below the camera modules.
