Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere to reportedly launch on September 13

Xbox Play Anywhere lets you play a game on both console and PC.

Tired of switching between your PC and Xbox One console for playing games? At E3, Microsoft announced Xbox Play Anywhere, which as the name suggests, lets you purchase a game and then play it either on a console or a Windows 10 PC. According to Polygon, Microsoft will be officially launching the service on September 13.

Gamers will be able to purchase a game once and it will be available across both platforms. The best part is that you can pick up from where you left off on either the Xbox One or Windows 10 PC. In other words, your progress gets saved across platforms, and so will your achievements, game add-ons, and in-game unlocks. However you cannot be signed into a game on both an Xbox One console and Windows 10 PC at the same time.

To avail this service you need to have the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition update on your PC. Last month, Microsoft put up a blog post confirming the update will start rolling out from August 2. So users will need the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition updated on the PC whereas on the Xbox One users need to have their consoles updated as well.

Xbox Play Anywhere works for digital downloads only, and here are some of the games which will be available for purchase – Gears of War 4, Phantom Dust, Forza Horizon 3, Cuphead, The Culling, and Slime Rancher to name a few. You can check-out the complete list here. The company will soon be updating the list on Xbox’s website under the Xbox Play Anywhere section.
