MobiKwik ties up with 12 electricity boards in 8 states across India

MobiKwik has announced its tie ups with 12 state electricity boards. The move comes as a part of MobiKwik’s expansion plan to set up a national base for utility payments. The state electricity boards that have been tied up with are Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tripura, Meghalaya, Calcutta, Rajasthan and union territories of Daman and Diu.

MobiKwik has announced that it is partnering with 12 electricity boards in eight states in India. The move will allow customers to pay their electricity bills using MobiKwik’s website or mobile app. The electricity boards are in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tripura, Meghalaya, Calcutta, Rajasthan and union territory of Daman and Diu. Commenting on the tie-up, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MobiKwik said “with these tie-ups, Mobikwik now provides electricity bill payment services for 25 power discoms in India. This development is in line with our vision to make digital payments ubiquitous.”

The electricity boards that have entered the partnership includes Tripura State Electricity Board, Madhya Pradesh Madhya Kshetra, Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran, Bhagalpur Electricity Private Limited, India Power Corporation Limited, DNHPD, Rajasthan Vidyut Vitran Nigam, Madhya Pradesh Poorv Kshetra Jabalpur, Daman and Diu Electricity, Calcutta Electricity Supply, Meghalaya Electricity and Odisha Discom. The company is already providing bill payment services for power discoms such as Reliance Energy, BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd and Chhattisgarh electricity board.

The payment network is also partnering several non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) to offer micro-loans to users, as well as other offerings like mutual funds. The company recently partnered IRCTC for e-catering app Food on Track. Further, the company plans to gather users’ transaction history and draw credit profiles, as it expects to grow user base from 32 million presently to 150 million in two years. So far, it has tied up with offline merchants like Big Bazaar, Domino’s Pizza, PVR, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Van Heusen and Allen Solly, among others. Its online merchants include Uber, Meru, Oyo, Zomato, Myntra , ShopClues, MakeMyTrip and Cleartrip.

Mobikwik had in July launched its Android app making it available in India with over 32 million users and a network of 100000 merchants. MobiKwik is packed with features such as bus booking, recharge, utility bills payments etc. The application also allows users to access ongoing offers and locate nearby stores for offline payments with a tap.
