New video shows purported iPhone 7 EarPods with Lightning connector

It is all but confirmed that Apple would be letting go of the 3.5mm audio port in the iPhone 7 and would instead utilize the Lightning connector for both charging and audio. Now a new video claims to show the new EarPods with Lightning connector that will come with the next-generation iPhones.

If Apple follows its tradition of September launch this time as well, there’s just about a month left for Apple’s much talked-about iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus to be unveiled. While a lot have been speculated about every specification and feature of the upcoming Apple smartphone, the absence of the 3.5mm audio jack has been most discussed. We have seen numerous casings, renders and schematics to be convinced about Apple letting go of the century-old audio technology. Earlier this week we had seen proof of a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter and today we have a video that shows the purported EarPods that would come with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The video uploaded by Youtuber EverythingApplesPro, shows the purported iPhone 7 EarPods with Lightning connector. While it isn’t the first time that we have come across the Lightning connector EarPods being shown off, but never before were they reviewed and showcased like in this video. The EarPods in the video feature almost identical design to the existing Apple EarPods except that they come with a Lightning connector instead of the regular 3.5mm pin. The video shows the EarPods being tested on an iPhone 6s, where he also uses and demonstrates the inline remote function.

Although considering the recent rumours and leaks, its almost certain that the iPhone 7 would not feature a 3.5mm audio jack and so the introduction of EarPods with Lightning connector seem in order, this particular video may or may not be showing an authentic Apple audio accessory.

Apple is also likely to launch an adapter to ensure your existing headphones continue to work on the new iPhones as well, just as it did when it was transitioning from the old 30-pin connector to Lightning connector. Another video shows a compact Lightning to 3.5mm adapter, with a male Lightning connector at one end and a 3.5mm input at the other end. The overall design, white color and the size of the adapter does look like something Apple would design. The leakster claims to have sourced the adapter from a Foxconn factory in Vietnam, and says that it only works on devices running on iOS 10 beta.
