No kids allowed! Tinder raises the age bar for its users to 18

Previously, any person above the age of 13 could use Tinder.

Tinder just dropped a bomb on teenagers by raising the age bar to 18. Up until now, teenagers from the age of 13 were allowed to use Tinder and could connect only with their peers from the age of 13 to 17, as a safety precaution. Tinder also has a strict policy of easily reporting and blocking any inappropriate and offensive behavior. But Tinder must have finally realized after four years the ease of creating fake profiles and the trouble it brings forward.

One needs to have a Facebook account to register on Tinder and this way the age verification process is done. But Facebook is not a reliable platform to verify one’s age. There are other popular dating sites like Skout, MeetMe, Hot or Not, wherein teens can connect with their peers. But seeing how Tinder is so popular, it could come as a disappointment for the teens.

Tinder told TechCrunch, “On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences. Consistent with this responsibility, we have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users. We believe this is the best policy moving forward. This change will take effect next week.” Considering how Tinder has become ‘the online platform’ for hooking up, leaving aside lucky ones who actually found love, it comes as a good surprise that they have raised the age bar.

Tinder is also working on something for transgender users following a statement made by its CEO Sean Rad. This new feature would be unveiled in a few months. Tinder currently has gender options for male and female only. Tinder is also revamping their policies with these two new changes. BGR India has contacted Tinder for an official statement, and we will update you soon as we hear from them.
