PM Modi’s remarkable speech at US Congress featured Siri and we love it

Narendra Modi’s speech in the US was praiseworthy and sent social media into a tizzy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a historic speech at the joint session of the US Congress. Peppered with humor and wits, Modi’s speech received eight standing ovations and 66 clapping interventions during his speech. Among the highlights were the mention of Apple’s personal assistance service Siri, with a slight dig at the Americans and their enthusiasm for baseball.

While describing how the US and India share a mutual relationship with the ancient art of Yoga, Modi said, “Our people to people links are strong; and there is close cultural connect between our societies. Siri tells us that India’s ancient heritage of yoga has over 30 million practitioners in the US. It is estimated that more Americans bend for yoga than to throw a curve ball. We have not yet claimed intellectual property right on Yoga.”

#ModiInUSCongress, speeches of this kind are a rarity, futuristic, visionary, 360 degree approach to issues, firm, focussed, each line a gem

It’s not the first time Modi has taken a jab at the Americans. During his first visit to the US as Prime Minister of India, Modi concluded his speech at New York’s Central Park with a famous quote from Star Wars movie franchise — “May the force be with you.”
