Samsung Galaxy Note 7 India sale delayed amid global recall reports

Amid reports of a potential global recall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 sale in India has been delayed. The Galaxy Note 7 was supposed to go on sale in India today.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 7 in India last month, and it was scheduled to go on sale today. But turns out, you will just have to keep on waiting. The sale of the Galaxy Note 7 in India has been delayed with no clear indication on when it will kick off. BGR India learns that consumers who had pre-booked the Galaxy Note 7 have received messages about the units getting delayed. The same was also confirmed by multiple Samsung retail stores in Delhi and Mumbai that confirmed they have not received units yet and the company has informed them about the sale getting delayed. Update: Samsung has just confirmed that it has halted sales of the Galaxy Note 7 globally, and has also issued a recall of all the units regardless of when it was purchased. Samsung also says that it will take up to two weeks to prepare all the replacement units.

BGR India has reached out to Samsung India to try and get an idea on when the Galaxy Note 7 sale would eventually commence. We will update the story as soon as we hear from them. It is unclear at the moment whether the delay is connected to news of Samsung considering a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7.

Samsung has been conducting quality control tests after various reports of the phablet’s battery exploding while charging. This has resulted in the device catching fire, and in the process potentially endangering the users’ lives. Multiple incidents about the Galaxy Note 7 catching fire have been reported in South Korea. Users have also been reporting about random crashes — especially the Exynos variant — that renders the phablet unusable. Not even a factory rest or wiping the device’s cache clean seems to helps. Further issues being reported include the Galaxy Note 7′s display with Gorilla Glass 5 protection scratching despite what Corning claims. What’s embarrassing is the Galaxy Note 7 was bested by last year’s Apple iPhone 6s in real-world app speed tests.

These issues couldn’t have come at a worse time for Samsung, especially when Apple will be unveiling the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in less than a week. It would be interesting to see how soon Samsung is able to resolve the issues, and get the Galaxy Note 7 back on the store shelves.
