High-resolution displays on smartphones are cool to flaunt, but they also consume considerable amount of battery. Samsung wants to address these issues by offering battery-saving resolution switch on the Galaxy Note7. The global launch event is set for 8:30PM tonight.
We are hours away from the official global launch of Samsung Galaxy Note7, and yet, last minute leaks don’t seem to take a breather. Just some time ago we came across leaked live photos and retail packaging of the Galaxy Note7. Now, the latest leaked screenshots show that the phablet will come with a display resolution switch option to let you set the screen resolution and conserve some battery in the process.
As you can see in the above screenshots, the new feature in TouchWiz UI includes a resolution slider under display settings. Here, you can switch the resolution from QHD (2560×1440 pixels), to full HD (1920×1080 pixels), and even HD (1280×720 pixels) resolution. With screen set at lower resolution, the phablet will not need much of processing to push all those 2560×1440 pixels, thus saving good amount of battery. This could be highly user friendly considering a QHD display is an overkill for most common tasks unless you are watching photos or videos on the display.
Samsung will reportedly also let you set peak brightness with limitations, as it does in battery saving mode. You will also be warned about apps and other options that may not work flawlessly at lower resolutions. While 720p and 1080p resolutions could seem as a compromise between pixel density and battery life, it does seem like a better option than extreme power saving mode that turns off services such as mobile data, Wi-Fi, GPS and more.
Additionally, the screenshots also offer a glimpse at the revamped user interface with integrated Notes app, rounded icons, notification bar switches, menu icons and extra launcher, themes, and more.
Samsung Galaxy Note7 specifications
From what has been leaked so far, the next-gen Note phablet is expected to sport a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED dual edge curved display along with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection to keep scratches at bay. Powered either by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor or Samsung’s Exynos 8890 octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage is also expected. The phablet is also likely to feature a microSD card slot with support for up to 256GB.
On the camera front, a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear snapper or aperture f/1.7, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera is likely to be in tow. The Galaxy Note7 could pack a 3,500mAh battery along with support for fast charging and wireless fast charging. The phablet is likely to be Samsung’s first device to come with USB Type-C port. With connectivity options such as 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS, and an iris scanner for biometric authentication, the Galaxy Note7 could run Android 6.0.1 out-of-the-box, wrapped under TouchWiz UI.
Samsung Galaxy Note7 features
One of the key highlights of the Galaxy Note-series phablet is S-Pen stylus, and Samsung is rumored to introduce a slightly redesigned one with improved functionality for the Galaxy Note7. It could include new software tricks such as creating GIFs from videos, translating words by hovering the S-Pen over words and more. The Galaxy Note7 is also set to borrow some features from the Galaxy S7-family, such as IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, and a heart rate sensor placed besides the camera module. The new S-Pen could also boast water-resistant functionality, allowing users to use it under water.
To ease the process of backing up data such as photos, videos, apps, messages, contacts and more, Samsung could introduce a service called ‘Samsung Cloud.’ To being with, the company may also offer users with 5GB of cloud storage. A recent leak pointed that the Galaxy Note7 could cost around 850 Euros in France (which is approximately Rs 63,000). The Galaxy Note 5 was launched at around Rs 53,000 in India last year.
The global launch will take place later tonight at 8:30PM and Samsung will also be streaming the event live, allowing you to experience the launch from the comfort of your couch.
