Samsung looks all set to unveil the next generation Gear S3 and Gear S3 Classic smartwatches at IFA 2016. The unveiling event will take place in Berlin on September 1.
After launching the Galaxy Note7 earlier this month, Samsung is now turning its attention to unveil the successor to its Gear S2 smartwatch. The company has already sent out media invites for IFA 2016 event in Berlin on September 1. While the invite doesn’t specifically mention Gear S3, the clock hands does hint at a new smartwatch launch.
It was exactly one year ago when Samsung unveiled the Gear S2 and Gear S2 classic smartwatches with circular design and an intuitive rotating bezel. It boasts two physical buttons on the right edge for ‘back’ and ‘select,’ whereas the bezel can be used to navigate through the interface. While details about the Gear S3 are scarce at the moment, it is rumored to come with improved design and pack some new onboard sensors, such as an altimeter, a barometer, a speedometer and integrated GPS, PhoneArena reports.
Having onboard GPS will also allow the smartwatch to track your location and movement, without having to connect it to a smartphone. While the altimeter will allow you to check the altitude, the speedometer will let you monitor your exercise and other speeds. The screen is expected to display the current reading as well as a graph. Lastly, the barometer will alert you if the pressure is dropping too fast and could also indicate storm warning.
As of now, there is no word on the pricing and availability at of the Gear S3 and Gear S3 Classic. However, with less than three weeks to go, we expect more details to pour in ahead of September 1 event.
