Samsung to manufacture 17.2 million Galaxy S7, S7 Edge units over the next two months: Report

After launching the flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at MWC 2016, Samsung will reportedly manufacture around 17.2 million devices over the next two months.

Soon after announcing the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at the MWC 2016 unpacked event, Samsung has started taking pre-orders for the smartphones. Expecting to break records of last year’s Galaxy S6 shipments, Samsung is planning to manufacture a total of 17.2 million units by the end of April, Korea’s ETNews reports.

Last year, Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge had set the record by selling approximately 15.8 million units in first three months, whereas in 2013, the Galaxy S4 sold over 15.2 million units during its initial sale. The publication also reports that Samsung changed the manufacturing ratio of Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge to 6:4, compared to 4:1 ratio of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge specifications and features: While the Galaxy S7 sports a 5.1 QHD display, the Galaxy S7 Edge features a 5.5-inch dual curved QHD display. At the heart of both smartphone runs either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset or Samsung’s Exynos 8890 64-bit octa-core processor, which is market dependent.

Paired with 4GB of RAM along with 32GB and 64GB internal storage options, a microSD card for further expansion is also present. There is one catch though, Samsung has opted for a hybrid SIM setup, which means, you can either use a SIM card and a microSD card, or two SIM cards, not both.

In terms of photography, Samsung has equipped both smartphones with a 12-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/1.7 (1.4um pixel sensor) to ensure good low light performance. The camera module also supports optical image stabilization (OIS) and 100 percent PDAF.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge feature a 3,000mAh and a 3,600mAh battery with support for wireless charging and fast charging. Connectivity options include, 4G LTE, dual-SIM card slots, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, and micro-USB port. On the software front, both smartphones runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped under TouchWiz UI.

Both handsets also include IP68 certification making it resistant to water and dust. Another interesting feature is the Always On display mode that lets you check important notifications, date and time without having to wake up the device.
