Snapchat may soon let you book movie tickets

The integration of the speculated feature in the app, may soon make it your go-to destination for movie tickets, eliminating the need to install standalone movie ticket purchasing apps on a smartphone.

You may soon won’t need standalone online ticket apps, because social media apps are now ready to take over that aspect too. Photo sharing app, Snapchat, may soon start offering a movie ticketing experience in the app too. Fandango president Paul Yanover in a recent interview with The New York Times, hinted that the company may be working with Snapchat to built an in-app ticket purchasing features. Fandango is one of the biggest movie ticket distributors in the US, like BookMyShow in India.

Hinting at Fandango and Snapchat together working at developing an interface for the photo sharing app to integrate the feature, the publication reported, “A Fandango interface designed for Snapchat (again, allowing users to buy tickets without toggling between apps or leaving the platform) is on the way. Fandango President said, this is about Fandango appearing in these environments in an organic, natural way — the way people communicate with each other now, the way they actually discover, plan and buy.”

During the interview, where Fandango dropped hints on its collaboration with Snapchat, the ticketing company announced coming together with Facebook for making ticketing experience easier for users. The partnership will allow users to buy tickets directly through a movie’s official Facebook page. This move would be another efficient way that would successfully eliminate the need to install a online ticket purchasing app on a smartphone. Since most people are on Facebook these days, this makes so much sense with users being able to book tickets directly from the social media platforms. This would work in favor of the movie makers as well, the promotions can prove to be more convincing with a booking option right next to a trailer or an advertisement for a movie. Users could also simply invite their friends to book tickets via a Facebook event for the movie or through the Messenger.

Other than that, for users in US, Fandango has also integrated the ability for iOS 10 users to directly book movie tickets using iMessage. The iMessage feature would be quite similar to what Fandango is working for Snapchat. Although Fandango is not available to Indian users yet, the bit of news updates coming to Snapchat, Facebook, Messenger and iMessage is important as it wouldn’t be long before these features see a global rollout.

Snapchat has consistently been updating its messaging app with new features. Of late Snapchat has been striving to move past just being the app with self-destructing messages and evolve as a platform for broadcasting live videos for events and publishers. Considering Instagram and Facebook have been continually playing catch up with Snapchat by releasing ‘almost similar’ features, Snapchat has no choice but to ensure its idiosyncrasy is maintained. For quite sometime, Snapchat has been rumoured to be working on its own Augmented Reality-based hardware device.
